THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE USUALLY DO WHEN WE ARE ANXIOUS: GET STUCK IN OUR HEADS AND THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG. OUR ANXIOUS BRAIN LIKES TO HANG OUT IN THE UNKNOWN FUTURE AND THINK ABOUT ALL THE BAD THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN. AN ANXIOUS BRAIN IS VERY CREATIVE AND COME UP WITH THE MOST AMAZING WORST CASE SCENARIOS! OUR ANXIOUS BRAIN ALSO LIKES TO OBSESS ABOUT THE PAST AND DWELL ON REGRETS.

WHEN WE DO THIS, WE CAN'T NOTICE THE PLEASENT EXPERIENCES AROUND US.

WHEN MY WIFE WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS I NOTICED OUR CIRCLE OF FRIENDS HAD CHANGED THE PEOPLE WE NEW BEFORE, (THAT HAD NO UNDERSTANDING OF MENTAL HEALTH) HAD GONE AND IT SEEMED EVERYONE WE NOW CALLED FRIENDS EITHER HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED OR A FAMILY MEMBER HAD.

 WHICH IN A WAY WAS A BENEFIT, MY WIFE OFTEN CHATTED TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND I GOT TO KNOW WHICH ONE'S MADE HER FEEL BETTER WHEN THEY CHATTED ON THE PHONE, SO WHEN I NOTICE THE DEPRESSION STARTING I WOULD CALL ONE OF HER FRIENDS IN PRIVATE AND GET THEM TO RING HER.

 GETTING TO TALK TO SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTOOD CERTAINLY HELPED. 

EXERCISE

 

DON'T BE SCARED,

BUT EXERCISE CAN BE BENEFICIAL, IT'S OK YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND HOURS AT THE GYM JUST GETTING OUT OF THE CHAIR AND DOING ANY SORT OF EXERCISE, JUST SOMETHING THAT GETS THE HEART PUMPING A BIT, WHEN THE HEART RATE GOES UP THAT STIMULATES THE ENDORPHIN'S IN THE BRAIN, THESE ARE THE HORMONES THAT MAKE US FEEL GOOD.CHOOSE YOUR EXERCISES, PICK SOMETHING YOU ENJOY AND MAKE SURE THE EXERCISE IS RELATIVE TO WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF YOU DON'T WANT TO OVER EXERT YOURSELF, CHAT TO YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, JOIN A WALKING GROUP, EXERCISING CAN BE EASIER WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEONE TO DO IT WITH YOU, THAT WAY YOU MOTIVATE EACH OTHER

READING/MY TIME

IF YOU LIKE BOOKS, MAYBE HAVE A FAVOURITE AUTHOR (MINES STEPHEN KING) MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF EACH DAY TO HAVE A BIT OF A READ, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU WILL READ FOR AN HOUR(THIS CAN PUT PRESSURE ON YOU IF YOU DON'T LAST THAT LONG), JUST TRY AND PICK UP A BOOK OR MAGAZINE, WHATEVER YOU ENJOY AND KICK BACK AND HAVE A READ FOR AS LONG AS YOU WANT.

READING IS REALLY GOOD AS YOU CAN LOOSE YOURSELF IN A BOOK HELPING YOU FEEL A BIT BETTER AS YOU ARE NOT CONCENTRATING ON NEGATIVE THINGS AND IT ALSO GIVE YOU "ME TIME.

 EVEN IF YOU DON;T LIKE READING TRY AND ALLOW SOME "ME TIME" EACH DAY, DO WHAT YOU ENJOY, YOU MIGHT WANT TO PAINT, COLOUR IN WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY!

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF TINGS WE CAN DO THE HELP OUR MENTAL HEALTH. 

HAVING SOMEONE TO TALK/VENT TO THAT UNDERSTANDS CAN BE VERY BENEFICIAL.

PETS ARE A WONDERFUL FORM OF THERAPY.

LAUGHTER (WHICH ALSO STIMULATES THE ENDORPHIN'S IN THE BRAIN) CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE, IF YOU LIKE A CERTAIN COMEDY SHOW ALLOW YOUSELF SOME "ME TIME"EACH DAY TO WATCH "YOUR" SHOW, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF LAUGHTER CLUBS AROUND THESE DAY'S, FIND OUT WHERE THEY ARE AND JOIN ONE, IT WILL ALSO GET YOU OUT MINGLING WITH OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES YOU ARE, YOU MAY FIND "YOU ARE NOT ALONE!"
